Philip Morris Has A Distributor
The comedy, I Love You, Philip Morris, has found a distributor in the U.S. despite the fact that studios seem to be scared of it! Consolidated Pictures Group have finally manned up and agreed to distribute the film. You would think a movie staring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor would be easy to sell. But when you find out that they are prison cell mates who fall madly in love and have on screen “relations” some Puritans get a bit upset over the matter. After Philip Morris (McGregor) is released from prison, Russell (Carrey) attempts to break out of prison to be reunited with his lover; it is described as “Catch Me If You Can meets Brokeback Mountain.”
The film premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, and it even got fairly decent reviews. This film had hard time finding a distributor; apparently, do to a graphic, gay sex scene within the first ten minutes of the movie. The movie was supposed to be re-edited in hopes of salvaging it, but it is unknown which version was picked up.
The thought of Jim Carrey in a gay comedy sounds pretty entertaining to me. However, the idea of Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor in a gay sex scene kind of seems off to be. The thought of Jim Carrey naked with another man kind of frightens me. For me, it is the same as walking in on your parents having sex. Ewan McGregor, that’s another story. I mean, for anyone who has seen Velvet Goldmine, I think it’s pretty clear how far McGregor is willing to go.
Also, I don’t think they look very good together. I think McGregor could do better.
We will just have to wait to see how it is. The specifics of the release date and location is currently unknown.
